FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Popular West
Island Singer-Songwriter Releases Folk Album Dorval, June 6, 2006 – Isabelle Delage, well-known co-founder and host of West Island's popular folk venue
the Side Door Coffee House,
released her new CD earlier this month. Titled The
Inundation, the album features a collection of original songs written
over a 25-year span that tell stories of life, love, loss and hope,
often with a historical flavour. The title track is based on the story
of the Lost Villages of Eastern Ontario, flooded by the government in
the 1950's to create the St. Lawrence Seaway. Known to her fans as an insightful songwriter with a vibrant, soothing voice and a gift for original melodies, Delage has developed a loyal following over the years. Like many Montreal folk musicians, she began honing her skill at the famed Yellow Door, first at Sunday Night Hootenannies and later on the regular roster. That is where she discovered the late Canadian folk legend Stan Rogers, whose music provides inspiration to this day. A veteran of the West Island-based group Plain Folk, Delage has been writing and performing in and around Montreal since the late 1970's. In 1999 Plain Folk released an album of originals and covers with a Canadian flavour, titled Just When You Think, a line gleaned from one of Delage's early hits, Montreal, which is being re-released on the new album. The Side Door Coffee House, based in Pierrefonds, offers an evening of live music on the second Friday of every month. A sought-after venue by musicians from all over Quebec and the Northeastern United States, the Side Door provides an attentive and appreciative audience for folk, jazz, blues, country, bluegrass, celtic and classical musicians, poets and storytellers.
